The Green Lanyard Project is a community-wide initiative designed to foster accessibility, empathy, and inclusion in our downtown spaces and business communities. Created by Burlington Downtown: supported by the Aldershot BIA, the project offers a simple, discreet way for individuals with invisible or atypical disabilities to signal that they may benefit from additional time, patience, or understanding while navigating public and commercial environments. 

 Rooted in the values of Opportunity, Choice, and Awareness, the Green Lanyard Project empowers individuals to decide when and how they identify their needs, while helping businesses and frontline staff respond with compassion and respect. By using this document, business members and community partners can better understand the purpose of the green lanyard, their role in supporting neurodiversity, and how small, thoughtful actions can make a meaningful difference in creating a more welcoming and equitable community for all. 

 So, watch for the green lanyards in your place of business and continue to operate under the same principles as you are currently: to be kind, welcoming and helpful. This program works to make people feel more heard and seen, in your place of business.

 As the Burlington Downtown Business Association worked to enhance the downtown experience for all its many residents and visitors, we are thrilled to introduce The Green Lanyard Project 

Developed in partnership with @peacheycounselling, this newly launched program works by freely issuing a green lanyard to patrons & visitors of our downtowns. The use of this lanyard is to signal to our community members that the wearer of the lanyard (or a member of their party) has an invisible atypical ability.
