Today We Celebrate Jo from MD Laser Clinic
As we lead up to International Women’s Day, we’re proud to celebrate inspiring women who lead with heart, resilience, and purpose in the Aldershot community. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Jo from MD Laser Clinic, a business owner whose passion for her craft and deep connection to Aldershot truly set her apart.
Finding Home in Aldershot
Jo chose Aldershot because it immediately felt like the right fit. After learning about the area and its potential, she was drawn to the balance it offers—easy access via connecting highways that welcome clients from many surrounding areas, paired with a genuine small-town feel. What stood out most was the incredible support among local businesses and the closeness of the community. For Jo, Aldershot isn’t just a location; it’s a place where businesses and people can truly grow and belong.
Her love for the community runs deep. Six years ago, Jo sold her home in Waterdown and made Aldershot her home—a decision that reflects just how connected she feels to the neighbourhood she serves.
Giving Back Through Care and Connection
For Jo, giving back starts with how she shows up for her clients every day. At MD Laser Clinic, she creates a truly personal, VIP experience for every person who walks through the door. Clients know they’ll see Jo at every visit, building trust, consistency, and that familiar small-town feeling that makes all the difference.
She’s also passionate about supporting fellow local businesses, whether through referrals or collaborations with wellness providers within her clinic. Jo’s goal is simple but powerful: she wants everyone to feel supported, confident, and proud to embrace their beauty throughout their skincare journey.
Overcoming Challenges with Community Support
Like many entrepreneurs, Jo has faced challenges along the way. One of her biggest came a year ago, when she needed to find a new clinic location in Aldershot after moving from a spot just across the road. Thanks to the unwavering support of her team, mentors, suppliers, the Gill family, and the encouragement of her partner and accountant, the transition was seamless.
This year also marks an incredible milestone—40 years in the industry. Even after four decades, Jo continues to learn something new every day, which keeps her work exciting, rewarding, and deeply fulfilling.
Strength in the Aldershot Business Community
Being part of the Aldershot Business Community has played a meaningful role in Jo’s journey. She values the regular updates, helpful membership information, and the opportunities for guidance and connection. Whether it’s a quick visit from a fellow BIA member or ongoing support behind the scenes, Jo describes the community as welcoming, caring, and family-like—something she’s truly grateful to be part of.
Advice for Women Starting a Business
Jo’s advice for women looking to start a business in Aldershot is grounded and thoughtful: keep things simple, personal, and community focused. Take the time to truly understand the neighbourhood you’re serving and build a business where customers feel comfortable coming back again and again—especially during challenging economic times.
She also emphasizes the importance of preparation: do your research, connect with the Burlington licensing department, and make sure all proper structures and regulations are in place before opening your doors. Staying grounded and intentional, Jo believes, is key to long-term success.
This International Women’s Day, we celebrate Jo—not just for her incredible career and business, but for the care, connection, and community spirit she brings to Aldershot every single day.
