Meet Payton, Social Enterprise Manager of Next Door Social Space and Rolling Horse Community Cycle. We had the chance to ask Payton a few questions to learn more about the work they do and the people behind it. Payton works closely with Angie, on-site Manager of Next Door, and Alicia, Manager of Rolling Horse. Together, they create welcoming spaces where neighbours connect, learn, and thrive – showing how community grows stronger when people share meals, skills, and opportunities.

At Next Door Social Space, Angie helps make Thursday lunches and Saturday breakfasts a place of belonging as much as eating. Volunteers bring the Community Kitchen to life each week, and Mocha, their resident Emotional Therapy dog, adds warmth and comfort to every gathering. Programs throughout the year invite people to give back, learn, and connect in meaningful ways.

Right next door, Alicia manages Rolling Horse Community Cycle, a non-profit bike shop offering repairs, refurbished bikes, and hands-on programs such as mechanic training, youth drop-ins, and community clinics. Built on the support of bike donations and volunteers, it’s a hub where cycling is made safe, affordable, and accessible for everyone.

Tour d’ Aldershot

The team is also gearing up for the annual Tour d’Aldershot on Saturday, September 27, 2025, an exciting ride that brings the community together for a great cause.

Tour d'Aldershot

Why did you choose Aldershot for your business?

Aldershot is a neighbourhood where people actually notice each other, and that fits perfectly with what we’re trying to do. Both Next Door and Rolling Horse are about connection. Whether it’s over a meal, a cup of coffee, or fixing up a bike. Being here means we can walk alongside people in a very real way. We exist to be a place where neighbours love neighbours.

What sets you apart from all the rest?

We’re a bit different because we’re not running a business, we were established by Forestview Church Without Walls to build community and to help people experiencing poverty flourish. Everything we do, whether it’s serving free lunch on Thursdays or helping someone in need get a bike that suits them, it’s designed to make life a little easier and a little brighter for our neighbours. We’re trying to be a place that fosters genuine connection and community for those living in Aldershot.

What is your specialty product or service?

At Next Door Social Space and Rolling Horse Community Cycle, our specialty is simple: we bring community together and help people experiencing poverty flourish. The kitchen does so through fellowship and sharing food. At Rolling Horse, it’s affordable bikes/repairs, and teaching people new skills. Both pieces go hand in hand, because food and mobility are two of the biggest ways people can feel supported.

What do you love about Aldershot and what is YOUR favourite business to visit in our BIA?

I love that Aldershot still feels like a “small town” in the middle of a city. People look out for one another, and local businesses have a way of cheering each other on. My favourite spot? Honestly, there are a few, but I have to give a shout-out to Royal Cumin Indian & Hakka Restaurant. They’ve been great neighbours and part of what makes Plains Road such a fun street to be on.

What would you like the Aldershot community to know about you and your business?

I’d want people to know that both Next Door and Rolling Horse are here for everyone. You don’t have to “qualify” to come by, whether you’re hungry, need a bike, or just want to sit down and chat, the door is open. Every meal served, every bike fixed, every conversation, it’s all about building a stronger Aldershot together and we are here to be a service to everyone.
