Meet David Nixon, founder of Nixon’s Martial Arts, proudly rooted in the heart of Aldershot. With decades of experience and a passion for empowering students of all ages, David has built more than a dojo – he’s created a community where discipline, confidence, and connection come together on the training floor. From high-energy kids’ karate classes to empowering adult programs and results-driven KickFit kickboxing sessions, every class is designed to help you push limits, achieve goals, and discover your best self. At Nixon’s, the focus isn’t only on kicks and punches – it’s on building character, resilience, and lifelong skills that extend well beyond the mats.
Why did you choose Aldershot for your business?
When I was making a decision to open my dojo, I looked at many locations and communities. Aldershot was the one place that checked all of the boxes for me. I spent a lot of time in Aldershot as a kid and even back then I really enjoyed the vibe of this community. Now that I run a karate school here in I have the amazing opportunity to work with so many fantastic kids, families, and adults
What sets you apart from all the rest?
Personally, I have been studying the martial arts for over 40 years and I have been teaching it in Burlington since 1998. I love what I do and I love sharing karate and the world of martial arts with everyone. I also have an amazing group of black belts and instructors who are dedicated to helping everyone achieve their karate goals. The students make the dojo, and with that in mind, I have an amazing dojo!
What is your specialty product or service?
We teach karate to both kids and adults. We have a fantastic kids karate program that builds on the foundation of courtesy and respect. Kids learn valuable life skills in their classes while at the same time getting fit, having fun and learning real karate. Our adult karate classes are designed for adults of all ages. Not only do you get a great workout but you also learn practical karate and self-defence skills
What do you love about Aldershot and what is YOUR favourite business to visit in our BIA?
Aldershot is just a great community filled with great people. We love being here and working with our students and seeing them learn and excel. As for a favourite business, that’s a tough one. Whenever possible I like to support local Aldershot businesses. Whether it’s going out to eat, the dentist, grabbing a coffee or needing to pick up something for the dojo I always try to keep my business in our community.
What would you like the Aldershot community to know about you and your business?
Karate is for everyone! Our classes start at six years old and can go up to 70 years old or more. There is something in karate for everyone.
