Meet Melanie Bianco – Aldershot Dental Hygiene

To celebrate International Women’s Day the Aldershot Village BIA is shining a light on some of our Women owned businesses along Plains Road. It is a day to celebrate women’s achievement, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity.

We are thrilled that this group of women owned and operated businesses have chosen Aldershot for their business. They are mentors, change-makers, trailblazers and community givers.

What brought you and your business to Aldershot and Plains Road?

I’ve lived in Burlington for over 30 years now and from day one it’s felt like home. When I decided to open my own business, I knew it had to be in Burlington, it was just a matter of finding the perfect spot. I immediately looked into opportunities in Aldershot. I absolutely love the Aldershot area; it has a sense of community like I’ve never experienced before. Everyone here is very friendly and welcoming. There is so much growth and development happening in the area, and the people here love supporting small businesses. There is nowhere else I would rather be.

Do you have a female mentor or partnership and what has that relationship meant to you?

For about the past 10 years, I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Dr. Carola Hinojosa. She is an amazing dentist who has motivated me to further my career to where it is today. I have worked with many Dentists during my 30 years in the dental industry and I have always been in awe of Dr. Hinojosa. Her compassion to her patients, her expertise of the profession, her gentle touch, and her ambition to continue to grow and learn, is nothing short of remarkable. When I was looking for a Dentist to join our team, I couldn’t think of anyone else I would rather have to support our vision of delivering top notch care by compassionate people at reasonable prices.

Do you have any advice for the younger generation of women coming up as entrepreneurs and small business owners?

My advice would be to believe in yourself. “Giving up” is not in my vocabulary. There is a solution to every problem, even if you might not see it right away. It’s not easy, and sometimes you feel like you’re the only one struggling, but you’re not! Reach out to support groups that are there to help you, like the BIA for example! It is pretty amazing that we live in a time and area where there are so many resources and support groups to help women in business.

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.
