Today, we’re proud to spotlight Farwa Jafri, owner of ERS Burlington, a woman-led tech repair business rooted in independence, community, and purpose right here in Aldershot.
A Dream Years in the Making
Farwa moved to Burlington in 2016, and from the moment she arrived, she dreamed of one day opening her own business in Aldershot. In 2024, that dream became reality when she found a small spot in the neighbourhood — the very community she also calls home.
But Farwa’s story in the tech industry began long before ERS Burlington. In 2010, she opened her first cellphone repair shop in St. Catharines and became the first woman in the Niagara region to own and operate a repair business at the time. Her expertise runs deep: she is a certified technician for Apple, Samsung, Google, and Huawei, and has worked with several major tech companies over the years.
Still, Farwa realized something important — in large corporations; people can often feel like just a number. After being laid off in 2023, she chose not to let that setback define her. Instead, she returned to her dream, reclaimed her independence, and built ERS Burlington from the ground up.
What she loves most about Aldershot is simple: the people. The community is kind, welcoming, and supportive, and every day reminds her why she never gave up on creating something of her own.
Giving Back Through Technology and Heart
This year’s International Women’s Day is all about support and connection, and Farwa lives those values through the way she serves her customers.
At ERS Burlington, she believes business should be about more than repairs — it should be about community. She’s known for going above and beyond, which is why many longtime clients from Niagara-on-the-Lake still travel to see her today.
That community-first mindset inspired Farwa to create Teach for Tech, a non-profit initiative connected to her small business. Through Teach for Tech, Farwa helps kids, seniors, and individuals gain confidence with technology and access the digital tools they need to thrive.
Every repair and every purchase supports this mission. Together, ERS Burlington isn’t just fixing devices — it’s building skills, strengthening connections, and making Aldershot an even stronger community.
Facing Challenges with Support and Determination
Like any new business owner, Farwa has faced challenges along the way. Running your own business takes patience, resilience, and the ability to keep going even when things feel uncertain.
Whenever things get tough, Farwa reminds herself why she started — she’s not someone who gives up easily.
She’s found support through the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, which she joined last year, and through the incredible network of businesses and neighbours around her. She feels lucky to share a plaza with other local gems like the Aldershot BIA, The Platter Company, Wellbeings, J&G Meats, and more.
Farwa also credits her coach, Isabela from Burlington, as an incredible source of encouragement and guidance.
The Meaning of Aldershot Business Community
For Farwa, being part of the Aldershot Business Community is about lifting one another up and supporting local dreams.
She truly feels blessed to be here — not just as a business owner, but as a resident. Aldershot is home for her and her dog, Leo the Lion, and she speaks with gratitude when she says: she could live anywhere in the world, but she chooses Aldershot.
Advice for Women Starting Out
Farwa’s advice for women thinking about starting a business in Aldershot is powerful in its simplicity:
Just go for it. Don’t give up.
She encourages women to surround themselves with other like-minded women in business — because there are so many who will cheer you on and support your journey.
