Meet Peggi Shepherd – Wellbeings Pain Management & Dependency Clinic
To celebrate International Women’s Day the Aldershot Village BIA is shining a light on some of our Women owned businesses along Plains Road. It is a day to celebrate women’s achievement, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity.
We are thrilled that this group of women owned and operated businesses have chosen Aldershot for their business. They are mentors, change-makers, trailblazers and community givers.
What brought you and your business to Aldershot and Plains Road?
I lived in Aldershot for many years and loved the “live, work, and play” mentality so it was a natural location to begin my business close to home. Our first Wellbeings® location offered us an opportunity to renovate and improve an historic home that was in great need of repair which benefitted the Aldershot/Burlington community in many ways; even if medical care was not sought. Wellbeings has been in operation almost fifteen years and we have helped thousands of families. An outstanding complement of women have shared in this vision and have contributed to the success of our community medical clinic for pain, substance use disorder, and mental health wellness.
Do you have a female mentor or partnership and what has that relationship meant to you?
Yes, I have been blessed with several mentors and inspired by them. It is important to have someone on your side who is willing to offer concrete and useful direction to you. Their direction has enabled me to expand the medical offerings in our community to meet the needs of people who live in Burlington and beyond. Their advice and wisdom have ensured that people who previously had no access to medical care could receive treatments vital to their health and wellbeing. Families have been reunited and women played a key role in this.
Do you have any advice for the younger generation of women coming up as entrepreneurs and small business owners?
- Do your research and move forward with confidence in order to take the risks as an entrepreneur. If you believe you are doing the right thing for the right reasons, don’t listen to naysayers. Your actions can have a profound and long-lasting positive effect in the city you call home.
2. It is important to find someone that has both the expertise and the passion for the area that you work in or would like to create.
3. Find a mentor whose values reflect honesty, integrity and the desire to succeed.
Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.
