Today we celebrate International Women’s Day by shining a spotlight on an inspiring local leader: Kerri Sherk of The Fitness Firm.
For nearly three decades, Kerri has been a driving force in Aldershot’s wellness community — proving that passion, perseverance, and purpose can build not only a successful business, but also a stronger, healthier neighbourhood.
Celebrating Kerri Sherk: Strength, Community, and 27 Years of Leadership
Kerri’s journey began with a deep passion for fitness, nutrition, and overall health — a passion that inspired her to open The Fitness Firm 27 years ago.
From the very beginning, she believed in something powerful:
That any individual, with clear goals, a smart plan, commitment, and a strong support network, can improve their strength, mobility, and overall wellbeing.
That belief still guides her today.
While her business partner also brought expertise in business strategy, Kerri brought the heart of the mission — and together they created something lasting. Today, she leads the day-to-day operations, feeling both challenged and grateful to continue running a fitness and nutrition business in such a dynamic and competitive industry.
Making Fitness Accessible for Everyone
One of the hallmarks of The Fitness Firm is its commitment to being welcoming and approachable.
Kerri and her team offer programs at a reasonable cost, designed to encourage individuals to begin their fitness journey in a way that feels non-intimidating, supportive, and sustainable.
Their goal is simple: help people incorporate movement into daily life through motivation, education, and encouragement.
Inside the facility, members uplift one another every day, creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels they belong — no matter where they are starting from.
Giving Back to Aldershot
The Fitness Firm is more than a gym, it’s a community partner.
Each year, they provide gift certificates in support of local schools, churches, and charitable organizations, always looking for ways to strengthen the community beyond their walls.
One especially meaningful initiative is their Chair Yoga Program, held Thursdays at 11 a.m., welcoming 10–20 participants weekly.
Designed for all fitness levels — including seniors and those with mobility challenges — the program is both mindful and impactful.
Participants are invited to bring a non-perishable food item, which is donated to the Compassion Society to support local families in need.
Since launching last year, this small act of kindness has grown into something extraordinary:
Nearly 1,000 pounds of food donated — a remarkable contribution made possible by a caring community.
Resilience Through Change and Challenge
Over the years, the fitness industry has changed dramatically. When The Fitness Firm first opened, Burlington had only six clubs. Today, competition has grown exponentially.
Through it all, Kerri has remained consistent in her marketing, services, and commitment to her members — building a loyal base that continues to thrive.
One of the most challenging periods came during COVID-19, when mandatory closures, restrictions, and uncertainty deeply affected small businesses.
But Kerri and her team adapted quickly.
They offered virtual workouts, outdoor training when possible, and constant communication to stay connected to their members.
Most importantly, the unwavering support of the community helped them not only survive — but emerge stronger and more resilient.
The Power of the Aldershot Business Community
For Kerri, being part of the Aldershot Business Community has been incredibly rewarding.
It has allowed her to build meaningful relationships with members, collaborate with fellow business neighbours, support local initiatives, and contribute to the wellbeing of the village.
The trust, connection, and sense of belonging that comes with operating in Aldershot has been essential to The Fitness Firm’s growth and longevity.
Words of Wisdom for Women in Business
Kerri leaves us with two powerful pieces of advice — not only for entrepreneurs, but for anyone leading with purpose:
- Practice what you preach.
Your passion will shine when you truly believe in what you offer — and it supports not only your business success, but your own physical and mental health. - Be present.
Presence builds strong relationships with customers, fosters employee growth, ensures quality service, and helps you understand the needs of your community.
Celebrating Women Who Lead with Strength
This International Women’s Day, we celebrate Kerri Sherk for her dedication, resilience, and commitment to helping others grow stronger — inside and out.
Her story is a reminder that businesses rooted in passion and community can make a lasting difference.
Thank you, Kerri, for 27 years of leadership and for helping Aldershot move forward — one step, one stretch, and one supportive connection at a time.
