The Aldershot Village BIA (Business Improvement Area) identifies Aldershot as a distinct community for shopping, dining and for doing business. In addition the BIA has contributed to a variety of initiatives including the completion of a full interchange at Waterdown Road and revitalization and development along the Plains Road corridor. The Aldershot Village BIA, established in December 2004, has partnered with other Aldershot groups – the Aldershot Community Honour Roll, Plains Road Village Vision Group, Partnering Aldershot, Alderfest Community Festival and others to build support for approximately 250 retailers and service professionals.
Born and raised in the Montreal area she worked for Birks Jewellers as a buyer. After marrying she moved to Burlington and raised three amazing sons.
Fundraising and Chair with the parent group at Brant Hills public school was rewarding and enjoyable. Jo-Anne was also the Director of Registration and co chair for Burlington Minor Football Association and Stampeders program.

Sonia and her husband were both working dead end jobs and looking for something more in their lives, so they chose to try their hand at the restaurant business by opening up a booth in a flea market, which was an astounding success. Feeling that they had reached their maximum potential at the flea market, they set their sights on higher goals, closed their booth, sold their house in Toronto, and used the money they received to buy a Mr. Sub franchise in Aldershot, Burlington. Immediately falling in love with the area and people, they soon made many friends and regular customers, who they enjoy the company of to this day and hope to for some time to come.
When Sonia is not spending her time working at the shop she enjoys sky diving, bike riding and spending time with her family.
Melissa has worked in the insurance and public accounting sectors and has more than 15 years of accounting experience. She joined The Cino Group in October 2009 and currently holds the position of Staff Accountant. She manages the firm’s small business clients through bookkeeping and compilation engagements as well as personal and corporate tax returns. In addition, Melissa handles our non-profit and charity clients through bookkeeping and audit preparation.
She graduated in 2003 from Sheridan College Institute of Technology with a diploma in Business Administration — Accounting and received her Bachelor’s Degree from York University in 2006.
Kelvin was sworn in to Burlington City Council and Halton Regional Council in December 2018. He currently serves as Ward/Regional Councillor of Ward 1, comprised of the Aldershot, Tyandaga and Maple Communities.
Kelvin was born and raised in the Aldershot community and currently lives and works within the boundaries of the Aldershot mobility hub. Kelvin’s roots are deep in Ward 1, having attended Fairfield and Maplehurst Public Schools. Following his graduation from Aldershot High School in 1992, he furthered his education by graduating from Brock University with an Honours Bachelors of Business Administration. Applying his business training, hard work and a passion for serving people, Kelvin has successfully owned and managed several businesses in Aldershot including a property holding company and The Fitness Firm Inc. for the past 20 years. In addition to his work, he has volunteered and served as Chairman of the Aldershot Village Business Improvement Association for the past 11 years and was a founding member. Currently, 24 of Kelvin’s immediate and extended family, including his five children, reside in Ward 1. When Kelvin is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family. He assists in coaching several of his children’s hockey teams and is a committed player on several teams throughout the year. The family cottage is his favourite getaway, providing his family with a playground of activities and quality time together.
Integrative Touch was incorporated in 1995 to serve as a company which will look into new ways of approaching the management of chronic pain.
Kiara Galbreath was a very hard working doctor in a Montreal hospital. She was an avid cyclist and cycled over 80 km every day. One day she had an unfortunate accident and had to be taken to hospital where she had a broken spine and facial bones and was in a coma for weeks. When she awoke, her life was changed forever.
She had to relearn how to function and she had to learn how to manage her own chronic pain. She started Integrative Touch and went to the USA to study many alternative methods of pain management. She has very successfully incorporated several different ways of managing chronic pain and offers her knowledge to people who are determined to conquer their disability.
Miriam Mulkewich grew up in Aldershot , continues to have a family connection here and has established a business in Aldershot. She has been offering physiotherapy services in the Aldershot community for 18 years. She is the co-owner of Fit for Life Physiotherapy, which has been serving the community since 2009. Fit for Life Physiotherapy offers one on one physiotherapy services to all ages and to clients with musculoskeletal injuries as well as concussion management, stroke recovery, osteoporosis management and pelvic health. The clinic also offers Pilates and Yoga classes.
Born at JBMH and raised in Aldershot he received a BSc. from Brock University, DDS from U of Detroit Mercy, and a Masters of Science in Dentistry from Indiana University. Dr. Pedlar lives a few kilometres from his parents house where he grew up and went to school in Aldershot. He married his local Aldershot sweetheart and they have two children. Dr. Pedlar has practiced dentistry in Aldershot for 20 years!”

Involved with several organizations including: President of the Burlington Dental Association twice, President of the Association of Prosthodontists of Ontario, President of the John F. Johnson Society, Canadian Academy of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, Examiner for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, member of 10 Professional organizations, support many charities including JBMH Foundation.
Andrea Mattina is the proud co-owner of I Sarti Luxury Menswear located in the heart of Aldershot. Andrea has been a BIA board member since 2018 and remains to be an active part of our community. Andrea works full time in the transportation industry and resides in Aldershot with her two young children.
Jelena Milivojevic-Balogh has been a Marketing Manager at LaSalle Park Retirement Community since 2013. She graduated from McMaster University with degrees in Communication Studies and Sociology, followed by post-graduate diplomas in Public Relations at Niagara College and Management Studies at McMaster University. Before joining LaSalle Park, Jelena worked at Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation as a Communications & Events Specialist and a Donor Relations Officer to raise funds and awareness for the hospital and its needs. Jelena is passionate about the Aldershot community and is excited to support the BIA and its goals to make Aldershot a great place to live, work and connect.
Maria is a Chartered Professional Accountant and worked in the private, corporate sector until her recent decision to start her own business. Living in Aldershot, it only made sense to her to have her business operating out of the village that she calls home. In 2017, Maria acquired a small bakery located on King Road that served their customers at local farmer’s markets between Milton and Port Colborne. Over the past 12-months, Maria has been expanding the business, requiring additional space. This led to the opening of her first retail location at 355 Plains Road East.
Maria is an active community member and volunteer. She is a past Chairperson of the Halton Food For Thought program, run out of Burlington. She has Chaired a number of corporate United Way Campaigns. Maria continues to support the Gift of Giving Back charity, which she began through her association with the Burlington Girls Hockey Club. In addition, Maria is the current interim Chair for the Burlington Food Bank. Joining the ABIA in January 2020, Maria is eager to support the team and local businesses to ensure that Aldershot, Burlington remains a vital and lively community.

Andrea enjoys bringing the many wonderful businesses that reside on Plains Road together online and in our BIA, specializing in connecting your business to your community. Andrea sits on the Board of the Compassion Society of Halton and finds that rewarding and full-filling.
She has been in the customer service industry for many many years, the last 28 being a Sales Manager and Creative Merchandiser in Hallmark stores and now a Concierge at Lasalle Park Retirement Community which she loves and can share her compassion for people with the residents and their families. She is happy to now be a part of the Aldershot Village BIA.
